Food safety and nutritional quality

IFS and BRC Certifications

Food safety and nutritional quality are at the heart of our mission. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards across our business, with all production sites certified to internationally recognised IFS and/or BRCGS Food Safety standards. These certifications provide independent verification of our robust quality management systems, operational controls, and continuous improvement approach to protecting consumers and customers.

Environmental Transparency & Responsibility

Waste

Effective waste management is a key pillar of our environmental strategy. Across all Emmi Desserts sites, we implement a robust waste management approach designed to reduce waste generation and maximize resource recovery.

Our actions focus on three key areas:

  • Implementing source segregation systems tailored to the different waste streams generated on our sites;
  • Maximising the recovery of recyclable materials, including cardboard, paper, plastics, metals and wood;
  • Raising employee awareness through regular training and communication on waste sorting best practices.

Each site monitors waste quantities by treatment stream on a regular basis, enabling us to measure recovery rates, identify opportunities for improvement and share best practices across the Group.

By continuously improving waste segregation and expanding recovery solutions, we aim to reduce the amount of waste sent for disposal while increasing recycling and recovery, in line with the principles of the circular economy.

Water

Water stewardship is a key pillar of our CSR strategy. To ensure rigorous management of our water consumption, all of our sites are monitored regularly and equipped with sub-meters that enable detailed analysis of water use. This approach allows us to quickly identify any abnormal consumption and implement appropriate corrective actions.

As part of our decarbonization commitments, we have set a target to reduce our water consumption intensity by 5% between 2022 and 2030. Today, most of our water withdrawals are associated with the cooling systems required for our manufacturing processes, followed by hygiene and cleaning operations, and finally the water incorporated into our recipes.

Ambitious Climate Action

Emmi Desserts formally committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the decarbonisation targets have been officially validated.

The Science Based Targets initiative provides a globally recognised framework for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement. By adopting these targets, we have committed to taking meaningful and measurable action to reduce the environmental impact of our operations and value chain.

The targets applicable to our sites in USA are:

  • Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions (absolute reduction): 46.2% reduction by 2031.
  • Scope 3 GHG emissions per tonne of product sold (excluding agricultural products): 46.2% reduction by 2031.
  • Scope 3 FLAG (Forest, Land and Agriculture) emissions related to agricultural products (absolute reduction): 33.3% reduction by 2031.

These ambitious targets reflect our commitment to reducing emissions across our operations, energy consumption, supply chain and agricultural sourcing. By working collaboratively with our suppliers, customers and colleagues across the Emmi Desserts business, we aim to play an active role in the transition to a lower-carbon future while continuing to deliver high-quality desserts for our customers and consumers.

Health and Safety

Health and Safety remain our top priority, with several sites achieving ISO 45001 certification or either RoSPA Gold Award certification. We lead local prevention initiatives, such as health campaigns, risk simulations, and well-being workshops, with a reinforced commitment to reducing accident frequency rates. Furthermore, we promote a diverse and open working environment in which all ideas are welcome and a broad exchange takes place. Significant human and industrial investments are made every year.

Ethics

Integrity and ethical conduct are fundamental to the way we operate. The Executive Committee of Emmi Desserts formally commits to the Group’s Ethical Charter and is responsible for ensuring its effective implementation across all business activities. The Charter is brought to life through 10 guiding principles that shape decision-making, behaviours, and actions throughout the organisation. Read our Ethical Charter here.

Local Roots & Community Engagement

Charitable donations and rural foundations

Our story is written close to the regions where we operate. We firmly believe that our company’s success depends on building lasting ties with local communities, farming partners, associations and the economic stakeholders in our regions. Supporting employment, promoting inclusion, and showcasing national products and know-how—these are all priorities that reflect our desire to be an engaged and useful player wherever our factories are located.

We support a number of local and national charities through donations of desserts and financial contributions.

Responsible Purchasing

We make responsible sourcing a key driver of our sustainability strategy. Working in partnership with our suppliers, we strive to reduce the environmental impact of our raw materials while ensuring high standards of ethics and quality. This approach is supported by a CSR assessment of our suppliers, which now covers 80% of our procurement spend and enables us to measure their commitments as well as their environmental, social, and ethical performance.

Examples of our commitments:

  • 100% of our cocoa is now covered by sustainable certification schemes, including Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade.
  • We are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our flour by 30%, in collaboration with our agricultural and milling partners.
  • We work with our suppliers on joint decarbonization roadmaps to accelerate greenhouse gas emissions reductions across our entire value chain.
  • Staying true to our local roots, 65% of our purchases are made from domestic suppliers, supporting the local economy while reducing transport-related impacts.
  • For many years, the palm oil used in our raw materials has been sourced from deforestation-free supply chains through segregated RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certification.
  • Another positive change introduced in 2026 was some transition to wheat flour produced from wheat grown using regenerative agricultural practices. These farming methods help to support soil health, biodiversity and the long-term sustainability of agricultural systems.
